Perched above Clareville Beach this north-west-facing tree house embraces panoramic views of the western foreshores national park and mature Pittwater Spotted Gums. Designed to maximize natural light and ventilation, the structure preserves the surrounding bushland while maintaining a minimal visual impact.
The garage, studio, and cantilevered living wing are set high into the hillside to minimize the structure’s visual impact from the street and neighbouring properties. The north-facing living areas open to a covered deck that floats above the garage, offering filtered water views. The modest bedroom wing includes three bedrooms opening to a full-length veranda and a private master suite with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe.
The design incorporates high ceilings, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, and wide overhangs to optimise solar gain during winter and provide effective shading in summer. The thermal mass properties of concrete and earth regulate internal temperatures, enhancing energy efficiency. Natural materials like dark timber and steel help the home blend seamlessly into its surroundings.
